I'm Kat Greenbrook

I live in New Zealand, work as a Data Storyteller, and am easily annoyed by unclear data visuals.

I spent the first ten years of my career in analytics roles (Reporting Analyst, Insight Analyst, Data Scientist). But the deeper I delved into data, the more disheartened I became. I saw a consistent disconnect between data teams and the people they were trying to influence. It was frustrating to work hard on an analysis that didn't get used.

So I went looking for answers. I earned a degree in graphic design, leaning hard into data visualisation, and discovering that even beautiful visuals weren't enough on their own. What was missing was story.

In 2016 I founded Rogue Penguin to help business professionals communicate data insights more effectively. Since then I've delivered hundreds of workshops and keynotes across New Zealand and internationally.

In 2016, I established the data storytelling company Rogue Penguin (before you ask, yes, there are real penguins in New Zealand). Rogue Penguin exists to help business professionals communicate data insights.

In 2023, I published The Data Storyteller's Handbook—a practical guide to creating business impact through data storytelling, and the book that inspired this course.

This course represents the very best of what I've learned across a decade of working at the intersection of data, communication, and business impact.
